About Us

A brief history of Queenstreet Carpets & Furnishings...

1967 The Carpet Bargain Centre is formed by Malcolm and Nikki Dixie, on the site of the current WHSmiths in Queen Street, in Exeter City Centre.
1967 The business relocates across the road and renames itself 'Queen Street Carpets' and becomes a Limited company. The business blossoms and begins branching out into furniture and beds.
1969 The business expands and purchases a 12,000sqft former laundry warehouse in Alphington and opens a second shop, 'Dixieland Mills', allowing the company to increase its presence in furniture and carpet retail
1973 The business sells the property in Queen Street to focus on the much larger premises in Alphington.
1982 The showrooms in Alphington are renamed 'Queenstreet Carpets & Furnishings', to reflect its history and product range.
1987 Mark Dixie, the eldest son, joins the company to run day to day activities of the business, as Malcolm Dixie takes a back seat.
2005 Gary Dixie, the youngest son, joins the company, following 15 years in the travel industry, to focus on new developments.
2007 The company begins significant investment into developing showrooms in Exeter and finalises plans to roll out national sales via a new webiste.
