Traditionally, stair rods were used to hold a carpet runner in place on stairs, but with superior carpet installation techniques and more rigid safety standards today, stair rods serve primarily a decorative purpose.

Stair rods are, however, still an integral part of many installation techniques. They hide dimples in the carpet runner caused by installation staples or nail heads, and they are also often required to conceal a pattern mismatch when the carpet runner is cut during installation at each step where the tread meets the riser.

Stair rods consists of a long bar, either solid core or tube (hollow core), and brackets used to hold the bar in place. The brackets are installed on either side the carpet runner directly on the wood of the step. The brackets hold the bar that lies across the carpet runner firmly in place.

A decorative finial end is commonly attached or integrated into the ends of the bar or attached to the outside of the brackets to give a more decorative and less industrial look.

  1. All orders over £999 include our free delivery service to any UK mainland address. Terms may vary during promotional events and for carpet orders
  2. All online orders under £1000 are subject to a £55 delivery charge if you live outside of Devon; a charge of £25 applies if you live in Devon outside of EX1, EX2, EX3, EX4, EX5 & EX6 postcodes and there is no charge if you live within these postcodes (excludes some small low value items). Terms may vary during promotional events and for carpet orders
  3. We are unable to deliver orders outside of mainland UK, or to the following UK mainland postcodes: KW, IV, PH & AB
  4. Delivery of your order will vary depending on your chosen product. We will advise you of the expected waiting time before we confirm your order and take payment. Whilst every effort will be made to meet the required delivery date, we can accept no responsibility for failure to meet any such requested date due to circumstances beyond our control
  5. Once your order has been received by us, we will contact you to arrange delivery to your chosen address
  6. Delivery to your chosen address is usually within 14 days of your order becoming available in our warehouse
  7. Deliveries are made between 9am & 5pm Monday to Friday. You will be notified whether your delivery will be either ‘AM’ or ‘PM’
  8. We can accept no responsibility should there be a problem with access for your order to the desired location. In such instances, we will place it to the nearest possible point to that location
  9. We are able to remove old furniture, beds or mattresses but this service depends on your location. Please discuss with a sales advisor
  10. You must retain any packaging for a period of 7 days following delivery in case you identify a fault and are required to return the item(s)
  11. If you live in Cornwall, Dorset, Somerset or Devon we will usually use our own staff and delivery vehicles. For most other counties we use reputable third party delivery companies who will deliver your order on our behalf
  12. We are only able to deliver clearance products if you live near our showrooms in Exeter, Devon. Please ask for further details. We can recommend third party collection and delivery services.
